How To Tell A Great Dentist Apart

AND GET THE CARE YOU DESERVE

When you stop to think about it, it’s surprising how little thought most people put into finding the right dentist. They might simply choose one that’s close to their home, or ask a friend for a referral, but rarely do they take the time to check credentials, ask about specialties, or otherwise get below the surface.

Of course, we realize that most people aren’t sure what to look for in the first place. With that in mind, here are a few easy-to-remember tips on finding a great dentist:

The edges or the tips of teeth can naturally appear semi-transparent because the dentin doesn’t reach these areas and only have enamel. However, due to enamel erosion, a larger portion of teeth can start to appear translucent.

  • A great dentist asks about your symptoms and history first. A dentist who simply goes into your mouth without finding out what kinds of concerns you have first isn’t doing the best job possible. Knowing the patient and especially what kinds of concerns they have – is an important part of the process.
  • A great dentist explains what’s going on. During your visit, and especially an initial exam, a good dentist will explain what he or she has seen, rather than leaving you waiting and guessing to get a diagnosis. Having a good ‘bedside manner’ is especially important in dentistry, as patients may be nervous about the process or procedures.
  • A great dentist will have lots of happy patients. Sometimes, you can see this from the referrals or local reviews online, but you can also tell from the men and women leaving their office. If most of them seem happy, then you’ve probably found a great dentist.

It’s not always easy to find a great dentist, but following these tips should help you get started.
